Neha Thirani Bagri

Neha Thirani Bagri is an independent journalist whose work focuses on politics, development, gender, and human rights in South Asia. She is currently pursuing an M.A. at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. In 2016 she was named an Overseas Press Club Foundation scholar. Before Columbia, she was a staff reporter for The New York Times’ South Asia bureau for four years, writing regularly for the print and digital edition. As the only staff reporter based in Mumbai, she covered subjects as diverse as sex education in government schools and the paucity of open spaces in the city. Prior to that, she worked as a correspondent at the feature desk of The Times of India, India’s largest English-language newspaper. She has a B.A. with Honors in English Literature and International Studies from Northwestern University and an MSt. in English Literature from Oxford University. At GroundTruth, she hopes to report on the impact of climate change on vulnerable populations in South Asia.
